IADB Expert to Discuss Poverty and Marginalization in the Caribbean

WASHINGTON (November 17, 2008) - Dora Currea, Ph.D., General Manager, Country Department Caribbean,
Inter-American Development Bank
, is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center on Friday, November 21 at 2 p.m. She will speak on the topic, “Poverty and Marginalization in the Caribbean.” This, against the background of a global economic crisis that is bound to adversely affect the region.

Distinguished international economist the Hon. Richard L. Bernal, OJ, Alternate Exceutive Director of the Inter-American
Development Bank. will be in attendance.

Currea holds a doctorate in urban policy issues from MIT and a master's degree in municipal finance from Harvard.

Howard Hosts Second Annual Nanotechnology Symposium

WASHINGTON (November 17, 2008) - Howard University will host the second annual Nanotechnology Symposium, November 20-21, 2008 at the Armour J. Blackburn Center. The two-day symposium will showcase the latest advancements in nanotechnology and foster collaboration among a diverse group of researchers from academia, government and the science/technology industry.

 

The complexity of modern day scientific questions demands a multidisciplinary approach to research. As a comprehensive research university, Howard University remains committed to training its undergraduate, graduate and professional students to approach these issues and questions as members of a scientific team.

WHUR and WHUR-WORLD Host Annual Thanksgiving Drive

WASHINGTON (November 16, 2008) - WHUR 96.3 FM and WHUR-WORLD HD2 - Howard University in partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank will sponsor “Food2Feed,” a 12-hour radiothon/fundraiser to feed needy families for Thanksgiving at the Old Post Office Pavilion Thursday, November 20, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers will fan out along 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C., encouraging people to donate.

“These are tough economic times and many families are struggling to take care of the basic necessities,” said Jim Watkins, General Manager of WHUR and WHUR-WORLD.

The 12-hour broadcast is the culmination of a six-week campaign by the radio stations educating listeners about the plight of the hungry in the Washington region and abroad. Read More
