Three
faculty members were honored during the 23rd
Annual Salute to Black Achievers'
Luncheon, sponsored by
the Undergraduate Student Assembly on
April 8. Those voted upon by students to
receive the recognition were Dr.
Jules Harrell,
professor in the Department of
Psychology and director of Graduate
Programs; Dr. Sandra Shannon,
graduate professor in the Department of
English; and Dr. Richard Wright,
professor in the School of
Communications.
The
Reverend Dr. Betty Lancaster-Short,
a member of the General Counsel's
staff, was named D.C. Mother of
the Year by American Mothers Inc.
(AMI). She recently participated
in the 66th national convention
of AMI April 25-29 in Portland,
Ore. where the National Mother of
the Year was named.

| Dr.
Ransford W. Palmer,
professor and chairman of the
Department of Economics, was
invited by the Carter Center to
join its mission to observe the
national elections in Guyana held
on March 19. The mission was led
by former President Jimmy Carter.

Erika
Redmond
is the Office of University
Communications' staff assistant
responsible for supporting
departmental operations. Redmond
assumes her position after
working in various capacities
within the University since May
of 1997.

| Frank Savage,
University alumnus and chairman
of the board of trustees, was
recognized by the Wall Street
Hall of Fame on March 22 for his
demonstrated commitment to
opening doors for people of color
in the finance industry. Savage
is chairman of the Alliance
Capital Management International,
a division of Alliance Capital
Management, which is an
investment management subsidiary
of AXA Financial Inc. (formerly
Equitable Companies Inc.). |
