Department of RTVF Brown v. Board of Education Documentary Earns Award of Distinction

Brown @ 50: A New Generation of Footsoldiers,” a documentary produced by the 2003-2004 TV Documentary Production class in the Department of Radio/TV/Film (RTVF), has received an Award of Distinction from the Communicator Awards 2004 Video Competition.

The program, which aired on WHUT-TV in May 2004, profiled six D.C. area residents dedicated to addressing issues of social inequality still present 50 years after the historic Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case. The class produced the feature-length documentary under the guidance of Professor James A. Rada, Ph.D., who served as the executive producer.

The Communicator Awards is an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communication field. Entries are judged by professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. The Award of Distinction is bestowed to projects that exceed industry standards in production or communication skills.
