R. Victoria Arana, Ph.D., professor of English, presented the Higgins Humanities Lecture at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., on Sept. 12. She presented her lecture, “Celebrating Civility: Cosmopolitan Humor in the Newest Black British Writing,” during a special dinner where she was also honored for her groundbreaking research and publications.


Carol A. Beane, Ph.D., associate professor of Spanish and simultaneous interpretation in the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, has received a $5,000 artist’s grant for 2006 from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities for poetry.

Charles Rotimi, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Medicine, was among the cited researchers in the “Scientists Release Map of Human Genetic Variation That May Help Treat Common Diseases” article published in the Thursday, Oct. 27, issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
