Howard's Class of 2008 Outshine Inclement Weather

WASHINGTON -- More than 2,300 students received undergraduate degrees Saturday during Howard University 's 140th Commencement. Another 100 received doctorate degrees, the largest number ever in the 50-year history of the university's Ph.D. program. Despite rain, thousands of parents and friends from across the globe attended the ceremony, which was forced inside this year due to inclement weather.

Howard and AAAA Announce Partnership to Increase Inclusion in Advertising
 School of Communications joined Nancy Hill, president and CEO, of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, today to announce a new partnership with Howard University’s John H. Johnson School of Communications to establish a comprehensive center to address challenges, eliminate barriers and identify opportunities to achieve a more diverse and inclusive advertising industry workforce at middle to senior management levels. The announcement was made during Hill’s and Dates’ remarks at the 2008 AAAA Leadership Conference. Read More
George W. Purnell wins the Prestigious Reginald F. Lewis Scholar Prize

On Saturday, May 10, 2008, George W. Purnell, a diligent student and accomplished musician, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences and was awarded the competitive Reginald F. Lewis Scholar Prize.

 

The $10,000 prize is awarded to the undergraduate student that makes the most academic progress between the sophomore and senior years.

Purnell, native of Yeadon, Pa., had a cumulative grade point average of 2.41 at the end of his sophomore year. After much hard work and determination, Purnell graduated with an average of 3.12, a .71 improvement. Read More
