Dr. Matthew George has made significant contributions to molecular studies of mitochondrial DNA evolution that traced the history of all humans back to a common ancestor that lived in Africa some 200,000 years ago. Dr. George’s most recent research interests have been centered on gene regulation in cancer cells and a unique virus that attacks bacteria. He has also just completed serving on the Minority Biomedical Research Support Subcommittee as a grants and program reviewer for NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences (2000-2004).
