Dr.
Daphne Buchanan Bernard is
an anticoagulation specialist
at Howard University Hospital.
In November 1999, Bernard
implemented the Anticoagulation
Management Service at Howard
University Hospital, which
serves a vital role in the
hospital’s effort to
improve drug therapy management.
Bernard’s area of practice
is ambulatory care pharmacy
with an interest in self-care
management while utilizing
over-the-counter drugs.
Her current research emphasis
is on identifying risk factors
for clinical toxicity in anticoagulation
therapy, the benefit of pharmacy
interventions in the ambulatory
care setting and self-care
curriculum enhancement.
In
addition to her work at the
hospital, Bernard is a frequent
speaker at annual healthcare
and pharmaceutical meetings,
editor of the District of
Columbia Board of Pharmacy’s
newsletter, journal and textbook
reviewer for several healthcare
and pharmaceutical publications
and has adapted cases for
the Textbook for Therapeutics:
Drug and Disease Management.
Bernard received her Pharm.D
from Howard University College
of Pharmacy and completed
the Ambulatory Pharmaceutical
Care certification program
with the University of Illinois
at Chicago College of Pharmacy.
