Henry
J. Turner, Executive Director
of the Washington, DC Small
Business Development Center
Network at Howard University
has a 1995 graduate degree
in Business Administration
(MBA) from The Boston University,
School of Management.
He has an undergraduate degree
from Northeastern University
in Boston, MA (BA Ed.), and
a Masters in Education from
Boston Univ. (MS Ed.)
Mr. Turner has focused his
studies on the best practices
of entrepreneurs and the application
of those practices to small
and minority business owners.
Mr. Turner has facilitated
a semester long training seminar
for business owners to research
and write a business plan
using developed by NxLevel.
Mr. Turner has taught in the
Howard University School of
Business undergraduate program,
UMass Boston MBA program,
and UMass Boston undergraduate
programs on Small Business
Management and Entrepreneurship.
In 1996 Mr. Turner was elected
the US Small Business Administration’s
Small Minority Business Advocate
for Massachusetts
Mr.
Turner has been a small business
consultant and strategic planner
in business development to
entrepreneurs and the self
employed for fifteen years.
Primarily, he has worked within
the Small Business Development
Centers Network, were he has
assisted new and existing
business owners in identifying
resources needed by the entrepreneur.
Mr. Turner is a member of
the Association of Small Business
Development Centers and serves
on the Board of Directors
and the Conference Committee.
In 2001 Mr. Turner was named
the Executive Director of
The Washington, DC Small Business
Development Center at Howard
University. Mr. Turner
teaches undergraduate classes
in Entrepreneurship and Business
Planning classes for existing
entrepreneurs.
Prior
to working in business consulting,
Mr. Turner owned a minority
manufacturing company in Lawrence,
MA. This company was
one of the first SBA 8(a)
manufacturers, specifically
in the high tech fields of
electronics, contracting
with Department of Defense
agencies, The Army and The
Air Force. His company
was one of the top New England
Prime Contractors in 1983.
The
DC SBDC is located at Howard
University within the School
of Business. Funded
by the U.S. Small Business
Administration and Howard
University , the mission of
the centers is to provide
free counseling assistance
and at low cost training to
small Washington, DC based
business owners in growing
and developing their businesses,
through information from the
SBA and faculty research,
direct contact with full time
consultants, graduate students,
and consulting from faculty.
