Spring 2010 University-Wide Learning Community
Three University-Wide Learning Communities have been established to educate the campus and broader community about the circumstances, causes and solutions to the challenges that face Haiti.

>> March 9, 2010 – Learning Community Two: What made Haiti vulnerable?
>> April 13, 2010 – Learning Community Three: How do we plan for the future in Haiti?
This series of Interdisciplinary Learning Communities is being convened in conjunction with the University-Wide Haiti Task Force. The Interdisciplinary Learning Community Project is part of the interdisciplinary undergraduate research initiative sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the College of Arts and Sciences with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

“First Aid for Haiti: The Healing Campaign”
The Ladies of Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., have joined forces with the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel, the Howard University Student Association, the Haitian Student Association, the HU Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P., and the Political Education Action Committee, to assist the people of Haiti by collecting needed supplies such as band-aids, gauze, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, anti-bacterial ointments
and other first aid supplies.
Volunteers will collect supplies in the Armour J. Blackburn Center on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting at 12:30 p.m. there will be a Haitian cultural exposition, spoken word and singers to entertain donors in the Punchout. Also, WHBC 830AM, the student run radio station will provide a DJ and host.

Town Hall Meeting – Haiti…How We Can Help
The Office of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and the medical staff at Howard University Hospital will host a town hall meeting “Haiti…How We Can Help.” The meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. in the Towers Auditorium. All Howard faculty, students and staff are encouraged to attend.

WHUR to Host Fundraiser "Holding on to Haiti"
WHUR 96.3 FM will host a three-day fundraiser on Wednesday, Jan. 27, Thursday, Jan. 28, and Friday, Jan. 29. WHUR will broadcast live in front of the John H. Johnson School of Communications from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. encouraging listeners, members of the University family and the Washington-area community to make a monetary donation to help the survivors of the Haiti earthquake. For those who are unable to come to the broadcast site, they can log on to howard.edu to make their donation. All proceeds will be donated to the University’s Haiti Relief fund.

University Choir Benefit Concert
The Howard University Choir under the direction of Professor J. Weldon Norris will host a benefit concert in the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Campaign Rally at Howard vs. Florida A&M Basketball game
Howard University Student Athletes Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold a campaign to raise funds for the University's Haiti Relief fund.
SAAC President Giselle d’ Artois with the support of the Intercollegiate Athletics staff, and student athletes will collect $1 from each attendee at the Howard vs. Florida A&M basketball game. The first 1,000 to make a donation will receive a
“HU Supports Haiti” t-shirt.
“Party with a Purpose”
The Office of Residence Life, the Office of Student Life and Activities and the Howard University Police Department invite the student body to attend “Party with a Purpose” to benefit the University's Haitian Relief Fund. The event will take place from
8 p.m. - 12 a.m. in the Blackburn Ballroom on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Students will be asked to provide a $5 donation for entry. For further details, please contact the Office of Residence Life at 202.806.6131.

Benefit Concert "Hands for Haiti" featuring Wale
Students host a Benefit Concert dubbed "Hands for Haiti," featuring recording artist Wale as the headliner in Cramton Auditorium. The concert is sponsored by Howard University Student Association, the Office of Student Activities, Cramton Auditorium, Office of the Dean of the Chapel and the Office of the President. The proceeds from this concert will be donated to the University’s Haiti Relief fund.

Prayers for Haiti
Dozens of Howard University students, faculty and staff flocked to the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel, a sacred place that has offered refuge and strength for generations. The noon vigil included prayers, reflections and soothing songs from the organist.
