IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL HOWARD UNIVERSITY UNDER-GRADUATE AND GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS

   


Please be aware that you still have time to upgrade your student insurance benefits from the Mandatory Plan A (the plan under which all students are automatically insured) to PLAN B.  PLAN B (among other enhancements) removes the internal limitations, increases the pharmacy benefit from $500 to $2,000 per academic year, and increases the maximum benefit payable per year per injury or sickness from $30,000 to $200,000.  A side-by-side comparison of Plan A and Plan B is attached.  The cost to you to upgrade your benefits for the period 1/1/2011-7/31/2011 is $349.50.  This amount is due at the time of your on-line enrollment and upgrade to Plan B.  To enhance your medical and pharmacy benefits by going to Plan B, you must enroll on line at www.summitamerica-ins.com/howard THE DEADLINE FOR ENROLLMENT IN PLAN B IS NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 28, 2011.  ON LINE ENROLLMENTS FOR PLAN B WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER FEBRUARY 28, 2011. Once you have enrolled in Plan B, please be on the watch for a package from Summit America containing your new medical/pharmacy i.d. card.
 
You may at any time enroll your dependents under Plan A, and they may be enrolled now for the full term 1/1/2011-7/31/2011 at the full term premium.  
 
There is no provision in place to have your enhanced Plan B premium or dependent premium charged to your Howard University student account.  You must pay in full to the insurance company at the time of enrollment.  Should you have questions or wish further assistance please contact the University’s student insurance representative:
