ATTENTION ALL NEW STUDENTS
HOW TO AVOID A MEDICAL HOLD

District of Columbia law requires all students to show proof of completing mandatory immunizations. Students who do not meet these immunization requirements will be placed on medical hold. This status may result in interruptions to a student’s academic class schedule and may impact eligibility for University housing.

Once students have been accepted to Howard University, it is their responsibility to avoid a medical hold by immediately providing the Student Health Center (SHC) with proper immunization documents. To verify that a student’s immunizations are complete, review the following CHECKLIST of REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS:

  • PPD (tuberculosis skin test) within six months of starting at Howard or
  • If you have a history of a positive PPD, provide a copy of a CXR report within six months of starting at Howard
  • Tetanus (Td) or Tdap within the past 10 years
  • Two MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) after your first birthday or copy of immune blood titers
  • Three Hepatitis B vaccines or a copy of immune blood titers.
  • Two Varicella vaccines, or history of chicken pox (month/year) documented by a Medical Provider, or a copy of immune blood titers.
    Meningococcal Vaccine

HAVE YOU SUBMITTED THE ABOVE DOCUMENTATION TO THE Student Health Center?  Is the information complete?

IF A REVIEW OF THE CHECKLIST INDICATES YOUR IMMUNIZATIONS ARE INCOMPLETE:

  • Submit the required documentation immediately or
  • Go to BLACKBURN CENTER for clarification from SHC staff and/or to receive required immunizations:
Aug. 13 – Aug. 19 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
EXCEPT Sunday, Aug. 14 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

It is strongly encouraged that students receive required immunizations prior to arriving on campus. Students will incur costs to their student accounts for vaccines administered by SHC.

This is OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION that a MEDICAL HOLD will be placed on the student’s account if the completed documentation of the required immunizations is not submitted prior to registration.
