Information Systems and Services (ISAS) is deploying Google Apps for Education for all Howard University students


Why Google Apps?                                                                                                     

  1. It's free!
  2. Howard University Students want it.
  3. More storage space (7GB+ for email, 10GB for video and 100GB for Sites)

How is Google Apps Mail different than our current mail system?

  1. While our current mail system offers a large amount of storage (2GB), it is small in comparison to the 7GB email storage per user for Google Mail.
  2. Google Apps Mail accounts for Howard University will contain a different email address.  Students will now have addresses instead of

What are the benefits for Howard University?

  1. Internal Storage Requirements are greatly reduced by offloading Student email to Google's cloud storage
  2. Students can easily forward email sent to their Google Apps account to any email address they chose through Google's intuitive self-service portal.

 How do we get there?

  1. ISAS has already piloted Google Apps with the School of Business, so the groundwork is already laid
  2. Provision accounts for students on Google Apps.
  3. Direct the students to their new email system, it's that easy.
  4. Existing student email on the Howard email systems must be transferred, by the students, before these mailboxes are removed October 1, 2010.

Transferring your existing email
To transfer any existing email to your new Google Apps Mail account please follow these instructions:

Add a mail account you own

Do not check "Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail."
Forwarding incoming HU Google Apps email to your existing external/preferred email address

Gmail lets you automatically forward incoming mail to another address, if you'd like.
