President Sidney A. Ribeau to Deliver 141st Opening Convocation Address
University to Honor Alumnus and Olympic Medalist David Oliver

Washington D.C. - (Sept.22, 2008) Howard University President Sidney A. Ribeau will deliver the keynote address at the 141st opening convocation at Howard University on Friday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. in Cramton Auditorium.

During the ceremony, Howard alumnus and Olympic medalist David Oliver (B.A. ’04) will receive a Special Citation of Achievement for his stunning performance during the summer Olympic games in Beijing. Oliver clinched the bronze medal in the Olympic 110-meter hurdles. While at Howard, the 6-foot-2 standout athlete won four MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) championships in the 110-meter hurdles. He graduated in 2004 with a marketing degree from the School of Business.

Convocation is the official beginning of the academic year and serves as a welcoming ceremony for first-year students and an opportunity to honor Howard’s recent accomplishments. President Ribeau will preside over his first convocation since taking the helm on August 1.

Opening Convocation proceedings will be broadcast live on Howard University Radio (WHUR-96.3 FM) and Howard University Television (WHUT-TV), the first African-American-owned public television station in the nation.
