Howard University Announces Funeral
Arrangements for the Honorable Judge William B. Bryant
Washington, D.C., November 16, 2005 --Howard University announces funeral arrangements for the Honorable Judge William Benson Bryant, a graduate of Howard University and Howard University Law School, who died Sunday at the age of 94. He was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson to the federal bench in 1965 and became the first African-American chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on March 20, 1977. Federal legislation was introduced by President Bush on Friday to name a new $110 million, nine-courtroom addition to the federal courthouse in Bryant’s honor.
