| Howard Student Wins Prestigious Radio Competition |

Pendarvis Harshaw, a sophomore in the John H. Johnson School of Communications, won top honors at the recent New York Festivals Radio Programming and Promotion Awards gala in New York City. Oakland, Calif. native Harshaw wrote and produced "N-Bomb" which examines the set of ideals and attitudes regarding the controversial N-word. He is a reporter and producer with Youth Radio, a multi-media youth organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The telecommunications major is an on-air personality for WHBC-830 AM, the Howard University student radio station. Pendarvis also traveled to New Orleans, La., as part of the 500-member alternative spring break delegation to assist in the rebuilding and restoring of the city post Katrina. The New York Festivals Radio Programming and Promotion Awards recognize the world's best work in radio programming and promotion. Entries are judged by panels of radio experts from stations and companies throughout the world for their production values, organization, presentation of information, creativity and use of the medium. Youth Radio is committed to ensuring that dialogue around racism continues in a public forum.
