Kerry-Ann Hamilton No Place Like Home: Howard University Homecoming 2008 WASHINGTON (October 8, 2008) – Howard University homecoming activities begin on Friday, Oct. 10, and continue through Saturday, Oct. 18, and promise to provide great entertainment for the classes of 1938 and 2008 alike. “Homecoming is an exciting time for our alumni to visit, reminisce and renew their connection with their alma mater,” said President Sidney A. Ribeau. “This year is particularly special since it’s my first as President of Howard University. It will be an honor to welcome the many alumni, friends and supporters of our community.” Academy Award-nominated actor Terrence Howard is the 2008 Homecoming Ambassador and Grand Marshal. The theme of this year’s celebration: “Eden: An Epoch of Eminence” will include a mix of traditional events including the step show and new events such as the Celebrity Basketball Game. "I am very excited about participating in Howard University's legendary Homecoming," said Terrence Howard. "I am looking forward to celebrating with the students and the distinguished alumni of this great American treasure." The inspiring Gospel Show will feature gospel sensations Tye Tribbett and G.A. as well as God’s Image. Corey Holcomb of “Everybody Hates Chris” and Chicago-based comedian Damon Williams will serve up laughs at the Comedy Show. The headliner for the R&B concert is soulful crooner Raheem DeVaughn. The Homecoming Parade, Oct. 18, is poised to be one of the largest in the history of the University. The pulsating mile-and-a-half parade route through the historic LeDroit Park Community will feature more than 20 bands from the community and around the country as part of the 10th annual Showcase of Bands. Acclaimed actor Terrence Howard along with Master of Ceremonies Brandon T. Jackson from the summer blockbuster “Tropic Thunder” and Parade Marshals – prominent alumni Lance Gross (B.F.A ’04), co-star of Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne,” and 2008 Olympic medalist David Oliver (B.A.’04) will make it a memorable event.
