Background
Under the leadership of President H. Patrick Swygert and the Board of Trustees, The Campaign for Howard was launched during the 2002 Charter Day celebration. The Campaign goal was set at $250 million over a five-year period, ending on December 31, 2007.
Priorities
The University leadership, including individual deans, department heads and other stakeholders, identified the needs of the University and areas of focus for The Campaign for Howard, which are as follows: Student Support, Faculty Support, Program Support, Annual Giving, Capital Projects and Endowment Support.
Results
As of March 31, 2008, Campaign gifts, pledges and planned gifts total $275 million, exceeding the initial Campaign goal by 10%. This represents the largest fund-raising endeavor ever undertaken by an institution primarily serving African Americans.
