Washington (Jan. 30, 2009)
– Just weeks after being
named to the prestigious national
dental accrediting commission,
Leo E. Rouse, D.D.S., dean
of the Howard University College
of Dentistry, has been honored
again, this time as the recipient
of a 2009 American Dental
Education Association (ADEA)
Presidential Citation.
This award recognizes those
individuals and institutions
that have significantly contributed
to the mission of ADEA, which
is to lead individuals and
institutions of the dental
education community to address
issues influencing education,
research and the delivery
of oral health care.
“On
behalf of Howard University
and the College of Dentistry,
I am humbled by this recognition,
which is a tribute to our
outstanding student body,
faculty, staff and administrators,”
Dean Rouse said. “I
am blessed to be a servant
leader at Howard, my alma
mater.”
ADEA includes members of all
U.S. and Canadian dental schools,
many allied and postdoctoral
dental education programs,
corporations, faculty, and
students.
The citation will be awarded
in March during ADEA’s
86th Annual Session in Phoenix.
In December, Dean Rouse was
selected by ADEA to serve
on the Commission on Dental
Accreditation (CODA) , the
accrediting body for all dental
education programs in the
United States.
He will serve as one of ADEA’s
four commissioners on the
body, which is an arm of the
American Dental Association
(ADA).
As one of the 30 CODA commissioners,
Dean Rouse will help formulate
and approve accreditation
standards, establish policies
and procedures for conducting
the accreditation program,
determine and publicize program
accreditation status and appoint
consultants and site visitors
to assist in accreditation
activities.
