WHY THE FULBRIGHT?
The Fulbright affords me the
opportunity to travel, take
additional college classes,
and prepares me for graduate
studies.
WHY JAMAICA?
I chose to study in Jamaica
because it has been the site
of several prominent archaeological
excavations pertaining to
the experience of enslaved
Africans in the Americas.
RESEARCH GOALS
I plan to research examples
of African cultural retentions
through archaeological data.
The purpose of my research
is to use archaeology to expand
our understanding of the African
experience in the Americas,
highlighting ways in which
they were able to preserve
material culture in a hostile
environment. Based in Kingston,
I will be dividing my time
between courses at the University
of West Indies, researching
at local archives and volunteering
at Liberty Hall.
CAREER
GOALS
After the Fulbright, I will
begin a Ph.D. program in Archaeology
and ultimately pursue a career
as an archaeologist and professor.
