Dear Howard University Community:
It is with great sadness that I inform you that Jack Kemp, stalwart member of the Howard University Board of Trustees, former Vice Presidential Nominee, Congressman, NFL great, and servant leader passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2009. We have lost a great American. Trustee Kemp’s values and life’s work parallel the core values of Howard University leadership, excellence, truth and service.
Please join me in extending our sincerest condolences to his wife Joanne, his children, grandchildren and his extended family. All who knew him appreciated Jack’s love for his family and for the great pride he took in the Kemp clan.
We were elated to have Trustee Kemp join us for our recent April Board meeting. His participation even as he battled cancer demonstrated his indomitable spirit and the esteem in which he held Howard University. The commitment and fidelity that he undertook in his stewardship of the Capstone is exemplary. He shall be greatly missed. As soon as additional information is available we will forward the details regarding the services and the family’s preference for expressions of sympathy.
Please keep the Kemp family in your prayers. We will be extending courtesies on behalf of the University family.
