WASHINGTON (June 8 2009) -- An impressive group of 21 students from some of the nation’s best universities have arrived at Howard University for the summer to study and conduct biotechnology-related research. As Howard’s 2009 Amgen Scholars, they will be paired with faculty mentors who will guide the students through their chosen research projects. The goal of the eight-week program, which is supported by a generous multi-year funding from the Amgen Corporation, is designed to encourage promising undergraduates to pursue biotechnology careers. At the end of the program, the Howard University Amgen Scholars will present their research findings at a symposium at UCLA. The students will also participate in a three day conference with students from other Amgen Scholar institutions.
