WASHINGTON (Feb. 16, 2010) – Administrator Lisa P. Jackson of the Environmental Protection Agency will deliver a lecture titled “Expanding the Conversation on Environmentalism and Working for Environmental Justice,” for the seventh annual
James M. Nabrit Jr. Lecture Series at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb.18 at the School of Law, Moot Court Room, 2900 Van Ness
Street, N.W.

At noon, The Honorable Bernette J. Johnson, associate justice, Louisiana Supreme Court, will explore “The Life and Legacy of a Civil Rights Lawyer: The Legendary Alexander Pierre Tureaud Sr.”

The James M. Nabrit Jr. Lecture Series, presented in collaboration with the School of Law, and the international law firm
K&L Gates LLP, honors the legacy of James M. Nabrit Jr., who taught the first formal civil rights course at an American law school. He was a leading civil rights lawyer, actively participating in many civil rights cases in the 1940s and 1950s. Nabrit was one of the lead attorneys on the D.C. case of Bolling v. Sharpe, which was made a companion case of Brown v. Board of Education.

A Mardi Gras reception and the unveiling of the portrait of A.P. Tureaud will follow Administrator Jackson's lecture.
