Dr. Eve J. Higginbotham Appointed to National Board of Medical Examiners

WASHINGTON– Dr. Eve J. Higginbotham, senior vice president and executive dean for Health Sciences at Howard University, has been appointed to a four-year term as a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), representing the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Higginbotham oversees the College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health, as well as Howard University Hospital and the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library.

“I am truly honored to accept this appointment,” Higginbotham said. “It is a grave responsibility to participate in the evaluation of our nation’s future physicians and I welcome the opportunity to serve our profession and our colleagues in this way.”

The NBME provides high-quality examinations for the health professions. Its primary mission is protection of the health of the public through state of the art assessment, along with a major commitment to research and development in evaluation and measurement.

The NBME develops the United States Medical Licensing Examination™ (USMLE™), which provides a common evaluation system for applicants seeking initial licensure to practice medicine in the United States. USMLE is a joint program of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the Federation of State Medical Boards.
