Lt. General Russel Honore to Discuss Disaster Preparedness
Washington (March 25, 2010) — Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré, U.S. Army (Ret)., will lead a discussion “Katrina and Haiti: Are We Prepared” to emphasize the importance of disaster preparedness.
Honoré, was widely hailed by the media as the "Category 5 General" who led Task Force Katrina in the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes that struck the Gulf Coast in the summer of 2005. General Honoré is currently a Senior Scientist with The Gallup Organization, where he is working on developing questions to determine levels of preparedness and works as a CNN preparedness contributor.
Data shows that minorities are disproportionately vulnerable to and impacted by disasters. The presentation is geared towards young minorities to ensure they are educated on disaster preparedness.
The program is open to the Howard University students, faculty, and staff and is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, Student Activities and the Howard University Student Association.
