Actress
Victoria Rowell to Discuss
the Power of Women
WASHINGTON
(Sept. 7, 2010) Victoria Rowell,
award winning actress and author
of the New York Times Best Seller
“The Women Who Raised
Me: A Memoir,” will join
Howard University’s First
Lady Dr. Paula Whetsel-Ribeau
in a conversation about the
power of women. The discussion,
co-sponsored by members of Howard’s
“Women As Change Agents”
(WACA), will begin at 5 p.m.
on Wednesday, Sept. 15 and will
take place in the School of
Business.

Well-known
for her 17-year run
on the CBS soap opera,
“The Young and
The Restless,”
Rowell began her acting
career on programs such
as “The Cosby
Show.” She
was cast as Drucilla
Winters on “The
Young and The Restless”
in 1990-2007 and played
Dr. Amanda Bently on
“Diagnosis: Murder.”
Rowell
was born May 10, 1959
in Portland, Maine.
A former foster child,
she founded an organization
“The Rowell Foster
Children’s Positive
Plan” (RFCPP)
in 1990. RFCPP
is a non-profit established
to assist children in
foster care by offering
them scholarships, encouraging
their potential, and
exposing them to various
disciplines specifically
in the arts. In
2006, Rowell was awarded
an honorary Doctorate
of Humane Letters by
the University of Southern
Maine for her dedication
to helping children
in foster care.
Following
the evening’s
discussion, Rowell will
sign copies of her book.
In “The Women
Who Raised Me,”
she describes growing
up as a foster youth
and how her many mother
figures shaped her into
the woman she is today.

members of the Howard
