Howard
University Hosts Conference
to Address Future of
U.S. Economy
|
WASHINGTON
(September 30, 2010) –
Economists have stated that
the United States is in the
midst of the greatest job
crisis since the Great Depression.
Howard University’s
Department of Economics in
coordination with several
organizations will host a
conference titled “Jobs
and the Future of the U.S.
Economy: Possibilities and
Limits” on Friday, Oct.
1 at Howard. Congressman John
Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) will be
in attendance to speak about
his Employment Bill.
A
fundamental restructuring
of the U.S. economy is essential
to overcome both the crisis
and reverse the long-term
failure to generate jobs.
A number of proposals have
been offered to make jobs
a central priority of U.S.
economic policy. The purpose
for the conference is to bring
together the proponents of
these various programs, to
discuss their similarities
and differences, and develop
a strategic perspective on
how to proceed.
The
conference is sponsored by
the Howard University Economics
Department, the Chicago Political
Economy Group, the National
Jobs for All Coalition, the
Center for Full Employment
and Price Stability, the Center
for Economic and Policy Research,
the Center for Tax and Budget
Accountability, and the U.S.
Solidarity Economics Network.
Anyone
who would like to contribute
and further these efforts
may participate in the discussion.
