Howard

'Red Flag' Campaign
Verizon to Host Screening
of 'Telling Amy's Story'
and Panel Discussion
With Community Leaders,
Health Experts and Local
Law Enforcement Officials
|
WASHINGTON,
Sept. 29, 2010 -- To help
raise awareness about domestic
violence and urge students
to take action when they see
friends in abusive relationships,
Howard University will launch
its Red Flag Campaign on Oct.
1, in partnership with Verizon
and Verizon Wireless. As
part of Domestic Violence
Awareness Month, red flags
will be dropped on the campus
grounds prior to the campaign
launch.
The
Red Flag Campaign –
made possible with funding
from the Verizon Foundation
and Verizon Wireless HopeLine
® program –
was developed to explore the
nature of dating relationships
on college campuses and to
identify the hallmarks of
healthy relationships versus
the warning signs of abusive
ones.
Howard
University and Verizon also
will screen "Telling Amy's
Story," a documentary airing
on PBS TV stations nationwide
about a Verizon Wireless employee
who was murdered by her estranged
husband in 2001. The
screening will be followed
by a panel discussion with
students, community leaders,
health experts and local law
enforcement officials.
