Google Inc. Donates $100K Gift to Howard Law’s Antitrust Law Program

Washington, DC: Google Inc. recently made an unrestricted gift of $100,000 to Howard University School of Law in support of Professor Andrew I. Gavil’s antitrust research and scholarship. Among other projects, the gift will support his current work on The Evolving “Market” for Private Antitrust Litigation in the United States. Howard Law received this gift in the 2010 Spring Semester.

Professor Gavil has written, lectured, and commented extensively in the U.S. and abroad on various aspects of antitrust law, jurisdiction, and procedure, and recently served as Visiting Professor at the Centre for Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia.  At Howard Law, he teaches courses on antitrust law, civil procedure, complex litigation, and federal courts and also serves as Faculty Advisor to

the Howard Law Journal. He currently serves as a member of the Council of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association and is the lead co-author of Antitrust Law in Perspective: Cases Concepts and Problems in Competition Policy (2d ed. 2008) and the editor of An Antitrust Anthology (1996). Professor Gavil’s former Howard Law students have become attorneys at the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and international law firms specializing in antitrust litigation.

Prior to joining Howard Law in 1989, Professor Gavil practiced law with firms in Chicago and Denver. He received his B.A. magna cum laude in 1978 from Queens College of the City University of New York, and his J.D. in 1981 from Northwestern University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review.
