More Success for Afro-Blue on NBC’s The Sing-Off

WASHINGTON (Oct. 4) - Afro Blue, Howard University’s award-winning vocal ensemble, made it through the second round of the hit NBC a cappella talent show series The Sing-Off.

This week, the talented group performed two hits, “American Boy” and “"I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” The ensemble was very well received by all three judges.  The group will perform again in two weeks in the members’ quest for the grand prize,  $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.

This is the third season of The Sing-Off, which is hosted by Nick Lachey. Judges Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman and Sara Bareilles critique contestant’s performances.

Afro Blue, which was formed in 2002 by Professor Connaitre Miller, has performed around the world and received six Downbeat music magazine awards, including Best College Jazz Group, Outstanding College Jazz Choir, Best College Jazz Arrangement and Outstanding College Jazz Soloist.

The group has recorded two CDs, “It’s a Matter of Pride” and “Freedom in Song.”
