Boris Kodjoe Named Homecoming Grand Marshal

Boris Kodjoe

WASHINGTON (October 13, 2011) – Today, Howard University announced that internationally renowned actor and model Boris Kodjoe will serve as the 2011 Homecoming Grand Marshal. This year’s theme “Prestige: The Epitome of Distinction,” will culminate with the alumni weekend, Oct. 21-23.

“I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of this celebration at one of the most prestigious universities in the country, a school with an illustrious academic tradition and alumni who have been strong and positive leaders in our communities,” Kodjoe said.

The week of activities kick off on Friday with the Coronation Ball. As anticipated, the Homecoming favorites are returning and will live up to the high expectations. This year’s Gospel Show will feature Shirley Caesar, world-renowned “Queen of Gospel.” Nephew Tommy (comedian from the Steve Harvey Morning Show) plans to keep the audience laughing as the host of the Comedy Show. Excitement is building throughout the University community for the R&B Show featuring Tyrese, Joe, Monica and Avant. These staple events will be joined by inaugural events including the Homecoming Power Summit and the Signature Strokes golf tournament.

Tyson Beckford, who made his last Howard University appearance in 2007, will also be returning as host of the 13th Annual Showcase of Bands and Jamboree, where bands compete for a cash prize. Melyssa Ford will be joining the parade as a judge of the Showcase of the Bands competition.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. the homecoming parade tradition will continue with great fanfare. The mile-and-a-half route through the historic LeDroit Park Community will feature bands from around the country as well as the Bahamas, led by the Howard University Showtime Marching Band.
