WASHINGTON (October 13, 2011) –Howardwood, the annual event that gives students direct access to high-profile players in the entertainment industry, returns to campus this week as part of the this year’s Homecoming celebration. The event will take place Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Blackburn Center Ballroom.
Students will mix with industry professionals who are blazing trails in Hollywood both in front and behind the camera. Many of the participants are Howard alumni. This year’s event will honor Charles King, a Howard alumnus and senior vice president of William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. King represents Tyler Perry, Kelsey Grammer, Janet Jackson and many other celebrities.
Other participants include: First Lady Dr. Paula Whetsel-Ribeau, the event’s mistress of ceremonies; Vera J. Katz, professor emerita, Howard University Department of Fine Arts; actor Omari Hardwick and actress Aisha Hinds. Howard alumni who will participate include Kevin Monroe, vice president of business and legal affairs, Relativity Media, writer and producer Brandon Broussard, and television and film producer Crystal Whaley.
Howardwood is sponsored by NBC Universal and Fox. The event was created by May Sister Entertainment and is in its second year.
