WHUR Delivers Thanksgiving to Hundreds in Need
Radio Network Helps to Spread Holiday Cheer to Needy Families For Thanksgiving

Washington, D.C. (November 22, 2011) – Today, WHUR 96.3 FM – Howard University – along with the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, Shabach Ministries, United Medical Center and Walmart delivered Thanksgiving turkeys and bags of food to hundreds of needy families in the Washington region. With the help of several partners, the station has expanded its “Season of Giving” this year to help even more families have a joyous Thanksgiving.

The turkeys and bags of food were distributed at the Anacostia Community Outreach Center in the District and the Kentland Recreation Center in Landover, Md. during the Steve Harvey Morning Show with Tony Richards, the local voice of the Harvey Show.

“We know that the need is even greater for so many families this holiday season and this is our way of giving back,” said WHUR General Manager Jim Watkins.

WHUR contacted various organizations to help identify the familes to receive the turkey meals.  Those families will meet Tuesday morning at the locations to receive their holiday meals.  The giveaway comes on the heels of WHUR’s 12-hour radiothon Food2Feed last Thursday at the Old Post Office Pavilion, where the station raised more than $91,000 and 20,000 tons of food to feed needy families serviced by the Capital Area Food Bank for Thanksgiving.
