WASHINGTON (January 12, 2012) – Howard University is announcing its first stand-alone study abroad program for undergraduate students. The program will send a group of students to the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa, for a semester of coursework between July and November of this year.
To create the program, Howard partnered with the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES Abroad), a longtime university study abroad provider. Under the new partnership arrangement, Howard will have greater say over enrollment decisions in the Cape Town program. Selected students will take credited coursework at the university and participate in internships in the local community. |
Students interested in the fall or spring study abroad semester should attend an information session on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center at 3 p.m. The URL for the South Africa study abroad application is
“The program at the University of the Western Cape is the first ever Howard signature program allowing undergraduates to spend an entire semester abroad,” said Dr. Jeanne Toungara, assistant provost for international programs at Howard. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students because the program has no limitations as to number of students we can send.”
