Howard and EPA to Sign Collaboration Agreement
President Ribeau to sign five-year MOU with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Lisa P. Jackson

WASHINGTON (January 26, 2012) – Howard University President Sidney A. Ribeau and EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson will sign a new five-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two institutions on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.

The new agreement represents a continuation of existing collaboration between Howard and the EPA. Goals of the partnership include enhancing student and faculty participation in research and technology development and increasing student access to employment opportunities at the EPA.

Administrator Jackson will personally sign the MOU during a ceremony at the agency headquarters in Washington. At the ceremony, Jackson will also sign similar partnership agreements with officials from Bowie State University and Wilberforce University.

Howard and the EPA first entered into a collaboration agreement in 2006 as a joint response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The aim of the combined effort was to assist students impacted by the devastating natural disasters. Continuation of the agreements underlines the EPA’s desire to ensure a diverse workforce through internships, full-time employment opportunities for students, grants and faculty development programs.
