Howard Announces Student Essay Contest with $1,500 First Prize

WASHINGTON (February 27, 2012)- Howard University’s Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs will host its first university-wide essay contest, “ The Howard University Experience.” The contest is open to all undergraduate students and due March 21. 

The top three winners will receive monetary prizes and be honored at the first annual essay contest inaugural reception on Thursday, Mar. 30. The awards are as follows:

  • First place: $1500
  • Second place: $750
  • Third place: $350

Students are asked to write a 1,500-word essay that explores the questions “How would you know a Howard University Graduate?” and “ How would he/she be different from all other graduates?”  All essays must be submitted electronically or by hard copy by 5 p.m. on March 21. Hard copies must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Electronic submissions must be emailed to Submissions exceeding 2,000 words will not be considered.
