Howard University Wins Regional Journalism Awards

WASHINGTON (April 16, 2012) – Online publications in the Howard University’s Department of Journalism recently earned three Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists at the Region 2 Spring Conference on March 31.

The Howard University News Service won first place for Best Independent Online Student Publication ( In the Best Student Magazine category, 101 Magazine ( placed first. In the online feature reporting category, SPJ awarded third place for “Mother Turns Mourning into Movement” by Nia Moore.

The SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards honor the best in U.S. student collegiate journalism. National winners will be announced in late April.
