Dates Confirmed to Corporation for Public Broadcasting Board

WASHINGTON (Aug. 7, 2013) – The U.S. Senate has confirmed Jannette L. Dates, Ph.D., dean emerita of the Howard University School of Communications, as President Barack Obama’s appointee to the board of the directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Dates served as the dean of the School of Communications for more than 18 years, as associate dean for five years and as a faculty member in the Department of Radio, Television and Film for a number of years. She has been a frequent speaker and panelist on national television and radio programs where she discussed images of African Americans in the mass media. 

She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2012 White House Communications Agency Award for Service, the “Ebony Award” for Women in Marketing and Communication and the “Woman of the Year Award” from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Her term at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting expires in 2016.
