Career Exploration Week Prepares Students For Employment Opportunities


WASHINGTON (January 27, 2014) – More than 80 companies will be on campus to meet students and introduce career opportunities during the Spring 2014 Career Exploration Week from Jan. 27 through Jan. 29. The event is coordinated by the Center for Education, Development & Research, known on campus as the CEDAR Center.

Career Exploration Week will include workshops, networking activities and on-campus interviews. Howard students may register for the fair online here.

“Students must be proactive and focused early in their college years when preparing for their careers, so that at graduation they are equipped, not just for the first job but for lifetime employability” said Joan Browne, Ph.D., director of CEDAR. “At Howard, Career Exploration Week is key to our mission of developing tomorrow’s leaders.”

The main focus of the 2014 Career Exploration Week is to educate, prepare and enhance students’ chances of finding employment before and after graduation. Top recruiters and executives will be present throughout the week, including Capital One Executive Vice President Colleen Taylor, who will share her career success secrets at a new workshop called, Personal Branding for Career Success.

Corporate partners for the event also include: Capital One, Deloitte Services LP, Google Inc., PepsiCo, Johnson &Johnson, and many others.

Workshop Series: Preparing for the Fair
Monday, January 27, 2014
6pm -7:30pm
Blackburn University Center, Forum
Interactive workshop on what to expect at the career fair including tips on how to Plan, Prepare and Probe (Research) before for the fair. This event is open to all Howard University students and all majors.

Event: Career Fest on the Plaza
Tuesday, January 28, 2014
11am – 4pm
Blackburn University Center, Ground Floor Plaza
Select employers will be available to network, critique your résumé, and provide necessary tips on how to successfully navigate the career fair and job search process in today’s competitive job market. It is a great opportunity to get familiar with some of the participating companies and prepare for the career fair. There will also be free giveaways and refreshments. This event is open to all Howard University students, alumni and all majors

Capital One Executive Vice President, Colleen Taylor will deliver a workshop sharing her career success secrets.  This event is open to all Howard University students, alumni and all majors.
