Dean Wutoh Appointed Commissioner of the ACPE’s International Commission and Program

WASHINGTON (February 19, 2014) – Dr. Anthony K. Wutoh, dean of the College of Pharmacy and assistant provost for International Programs at Howard University, was appointed as a new Commissioner of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) International Services Program’s (ISP) International Commission.

A renowned researcher and clinician, Dr. Wutoh’s extensive work and study of HIV/AIDS in at-risk populations and combating stigma has contributed significantly to the reduction of transmission rates in Washington, DC and increased awareness both nationally and internationally. His research has resulted in more than 20 manuscript publications, international abstracts, posters and grants. In addition to dean, Dr. Wutoh has serviced Howard University as director of the College of Pharmacy’s Center of Excellence, director and senior fellow for the Center for Minority Health Services Research and chairman of the Institutional Review Board.

Dr. Wutoh received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He then completed a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy and Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacy administration at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

ACPE is the national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs in pharmacy and providers of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE’s mission is to assure and advance excellence in education for the profession of pharmacy. ACPE is an autonomous and independent agency whose Board of Directors is appointed by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Pharmacists Association, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, and the American Council on Education.

The ACPE International Services Program’s (ISP) International Commission was established in 2011 by the ACPE Board of Directors in response to the growing demand from global stakeholders. The ISP is dedicated to promoting, assuring and advancing the quality of pharmacy education internationally to improve patient care through safe and effective medication use.
