Hubert Laws Headlines Annual Jazz Ensemble Spring Concert


Washington, DC (February 28, 2014) – The Howard University Jazz Ensemble (HUJE), under the direction of Dr. Fred Irby, III, will present its Spring Concert on Thursday, March 6 at 12:40 p.m., in the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel.

Jazz Master Hubert Laws will be the guest soloist. Laws is considered among the finest flautists in the world. Howard University’s award-winning vocal ensemble Afro Blue will also perform. In addition, Howard will bestow a special citation to legendary saxophonist and Howard alum Paul Carr and Davey Yarborough. The event will also include a tribute to the late Nelson Mandela, as part of the University's Mandela Legacy series.
