Howard University, Barnes & Noble College Announce Partnership
The nation’s premier bookseller will manage the University’s bookstores
 

WASHINGTON (March 20, 2014) - Beginning in April, Barnes & Noble College will manage day-to-day operations for the Howard University Bookstore. Students and faculty will find an expanded selection of Howard University textbook offerings, services, merchandise and apparel. The new “Barnes & Noble at Howard University” will officially open on Monday, April 7. The current space will undergo a remodel throughout the summer.

“This partnership will improve our offerings and provide students, staff and faculty with more options to support teaching and learning,” said Howard University Interim President Wayne A.I. Frederick. "Additionally, the renovated space will further enhance our service to the campus and the community at large."

The new partnership offers a wide range of amenities, including: 

  • Affordable course materials and an expanded inventory of digital textbooks (ebooks);
  • A textbook rental program to lower costs for students;
  • A new website and e-commerce for both the main campus and School of Law; and
  • FacultyEnlight, a new online faculty textbook adoption resource.

Roberts, CEO, Barnes & Noble College. “The new bookstore will fully support Howard University’s long-held belief in providing an educational experience of exceptional quality at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. It will be an honor to serve such an esteemed university, and together, we will help to ensure each student reaches his or her fullest potential.”

Several key phases will occur over the next few months. The University will continue to liquidate its existing inventory until Friday, March 28. The University’s bookstores will be closed from Saturday, March 29 to Sunday, April 6.

The University has a seamless transition plan. Under this partnership, the existing staff will be retained as Barnes & Noble employees and will continue to serve as a key asset in the daily operation of the store.

Barnes & Noble College manages more than 700-college bookstores. As a new partner, Barnes & Noble College is committed to maintaining the rich history and legacy of Howard University.
