Engineering Prepares Future Scientists Through Summer Programs
 

WASHINGTON (June 27, 2014) – Howard University’s College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Science (CEACS) will engage young students from around the nation in science, technology and mathematics through enrichment programs this summer.

The programs include the Intel Boot Camp, the Precollege for Engineering (PCES) program, the Howard University Summer Transportation Institute (HUSTI), and summer immersion activities for students from the Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science (MS)2 in partnership with the Consortium for Additive Manufacturing (CAM).

The Intel Boot Camp is designed to offer 15 students the opportunity to learn about career opportunities in the intelligence community through interactive sessions and guest speakers. Participants will learn about world geography and security threats, as well as cyber security and historical diversity in intelligence fields.

Howard’s Precollege for Engineering (PCES) program is a six-week outreach program designed for high school students to engage with STEM topics such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, in addition to learning the fundamentals of electrical engineering and power systems.

From June 23-July 11, the 2014 Howard University Summer Transportation Institute (HUSTI) program -- which is part of the National Summer Transportation Institute launched in 1995 by the Federal Highway Administration -- will offer ninth and 10th grade students the opportunity to learn about careers in transportation through workshops, hands-on activities and field trips.

In partnership with the Consortium for Additive Manufacturing (CAM), CEACS will offer a summer immersion experience for the Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science (MS) 2 which will focus on introducing students to engineering design. The two-week program will incorporate an entrepreneurship challenge requiring student groups to identify problems, design solutions, and manufacture those designs using 3D printing.
