Wayne A.I. Frederick
WASHINGTON (July 3, 2014) -- In honor of Caribbean Heritage Month, Interim President Wayne A.I. Frederick recently received a Congressional Citation honoring his career as a surgeon, researcher and scholar.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) expressed thanks and commendation: “Dr. Frederick’s writing and leadership in the area of oncology – especially addressing health disparities among African Americans and other underrepresented groups is legendary. I salute you. I commend you for contributions to our nation.”

President Frederick also served as the keynote speaker at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) annual Caribbean Heritage Month celebration.

"I was humbled by the honor," Frederick said. "It is our sacred obligation to serve our community. As I shared with the attendees, opportunity is America's promise. Education is the ink with which that contract was written. Howard University is the inkwell."

With more than 3,500 employees worldwide, the SEC is the federal agency designed to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.
