Today, alumnus and Board of Trustees member Kasim Reed was officially declared the winner of a close and hard-fought Atlanta mayoral race. On behalf of Howard University, I would like to extend our profound congratulations to Mayor-elect Reed (B.A. ‘92; J.D. ‘95) for his dedication, tenacity and distinguished leadership as a state senator and his recent election to the Atlanta mayorship. He will succeed Howard alumna Shirley Franklin (B.A. ‘68), currently serving as mayor, and continue the illustrious legacy of African-American leadership in Atlanta for the last 36 years including alumnus Andrew Young (B.A ‘51). To our Georgia Club students, who based on their own initiative traveled by bus to Atlanta to campaign for the former student leader, we salute you for your continued engagement locally, nationally and internationally. We are very proud of Mayor-elect Reed, a true son of Howard. Go Bison! Sidney A. Ribeau |
