Ambassador Aurelia E.
Brazeal
Senior Advisor
Ambassador Brazeal is the United States Department of State
Senior Advisor to Howard University. Ambassador Brazeal served as U.S. Ambassador to
Ethiopia
(2002-2005), to
Kenya
(1993-1996) and as the first U.S. Ambassador to the
Federated States of Micronesia
(1990-1993).
In her career, she served as Minister-Counselor for
Economics at the U.S. Embassy in
Japan
(1987-1990). She was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for
East Asia
and the Pacific (1996-1998), responsible for policy towards 22 Asian nations as
well as ASEAN and the ASEAN Regional Forum. She was Dean of the
Department's Senior Seminar (1998-2002) and the first Dean of the Department's
Leadership
School
(1999-2002).
Ambassador Brazeal is from
Atlanta
,
Georgia
and received her B.A. degree from
Spelman
College
and, in 1999, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate.
She received an M.I.A. from
Columbia
University
and did post-graduate study at the John F. Kennedy
School of Government at Harvard University. She has received Superior Honor,
Performance Pay, and Presidential Performance Awards. She was invited to
join the Council on Foreign Relations in 2001. She received the Department’s
prestigious Cobb Award for Trade Development in 2005.
