Now Accepting Applications!!!

Dear Parents, Friends, and Prospective Applicants:

We are pleased to inform you that Howard University’s International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program for High School Students (IASEP) is now accepting applications for the 2008 summer session, which will take place May 31 – June 13. As you know, IASEP is a fully funded, residential program that affords highly qualified juniors and seniors an opportunity to enhance their understanding of international relations.

This summer IASEP participants will have an opportunity to interact closely with leading international affairs practitioners in business, academia, and government. Students will tour key foreign policy institutions, including the Department of State, the White House, U.S. Congress, and the World Bank. Participants will also conduct research projects, experience foreign language training, and engage in a United Nations crisis simulation.

We invite you to submit an application to participate in what promises to be an exciting and highly informative enrichment exercise.

Sincerely,                                                     Lanisa S. Kitchiner ,              Program Director

The Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center In keeping with the mission of Howard University, to provide Leadership for America and the Global Community, invites high school juniors and seniors to participate in this dynamic summer opportunity.

Unlike many conventional summer programs, IASEP is unique in its hands-on approach to instruction. As opposed to spending the summer inside a stuffy classroom, IASEP couples instruction with field trips, and interaction with International Affairs professionals on site. Since Howard University is located in Washington, DC, IASEP students have the opportunity to visit major international decision-making headquarters like the Department of State, the World Bank, CNN and Intelsat. Furthermore, students are briefed at various embassies in the area and go on a day trip to New York so that they may visit the United Nations. When they aren't in route to these exciting locations, students are developing foreign language skills, debating current policy issues, or learning about other international and study abroad opportunities.

IASEP is designed to stimulate interest in international affairs among minorities nation-wide. The Program focuses on all aspects of international affairs, including business, law, public health and medicine, journalism, and international development. If you know very little or a lot about international relations, this program is perfect for you.

Before applying, please note that only juniors and seniors are eligible to participate. More specifically, all students who have successfully completed either their sophomore or junior year of high school are invited to apply.  Please also be aware that all applicants should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
