Teaches undergraduate courses in Communication Law, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution and Mock Trial. Mrs. Sousa-Johnson has worked as a law clerk in Florida and Maryland and currently works as a legal consultant for a major telecommunications corporation. She is the Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Forensics Society and also serves as a Coach for the Howard University MLK Mock Trial Team.

Prior to her appointment as Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Forensics Society and a full-time faculty member in the Department of Communication and Culture, Tianna Y. Sousa-Johnson, J.D. has worked as a Team Relations Executive with a Fortune 500 company, an Adjunct Professor at Howard University and a Law Clerk in the Office of the General Counsel at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

Tianna Y. Sousa-Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University in Human Communication Studies and a Juris Doctorate degree from the St. Thomas University School of Law. As an undergraduate student she was a member of the MLK Mock Trial Team, among other school related activities, and has successfully competed in both regional and national tournaments. Upon graduating from Howard University, she was the recipient of the Department of Communication & Culture’s award for “Congeniality and Tenacity”. Her background in Human Communication Studies was certainly a catalyst for her many accomplishments in law school. As a law student, she was a member of the Student Bar Association, President of the Black Law Student Association, a Fellow with the Florida Bar Foundation, and a Law Clerk with the St. Thomas University Human Rights Institute. She also served as a Certified Legal Intern with the Miami-Dade Legal Aid Society, where she was one of approximately twenty students from the Miami metropolitan area, who were selected and sanctioned by the Florida Bar Association to represent domestic violence victims in civil actions.

An exceptionally motivated and vibrant young woman, Tianna Y. Sousa-Johnson brings a wealth of energy, enthusiasm and experiences to the MLK Forensics Society. She teaches undergraduate courses in Mock Trial, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution and Communication Law, and is a young leader whose journey thus far has identified her as an up and coming star of the Howard University family. As a proud Howard University graduate, she identifies with our young people and the needs of our community. Indeed, the future of the Forensics Society is a bright one.
