ADVERTISING

No university in the Washington area offers an undergraduate advertising curriculum as comprehensive as Howard University’s. The program is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and has won the respect of the industry through the accomplishments of graduates who have joined leading companies.

Students first gain a broad, liberal arts base. They devote their last two years of college concentrating on disciplines within the advertising industry. After completing an introductory course, they study Advertising Sales, Advertising Copywriting and Design, Media Planning and Buying, Advertising Research, and Advertising Campaigns.

A required 120-hour internship provides real work experience to supplement the classroom. Internships at organizations such as the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Leo Burnett USA, Burrell Communications Group and Ogilvy Worldwide can put students one step ahead of others in the career chase. Hands-on experience also is offered through CapComm, the Journalism Department’s student advertising and public relations agency.
