Contact: Washington, DC (Wednesday, January 25, 2006) – A Howard University alumna of the John H. Johnson School of Communications has been selected as one of 30 Young Leaders of Black America in the February edition of Ebony Magazine. Annually, Ebony Magazine publishes a list of 30 rising stars in the fields of law, academia, religion, science, entertainment, communications and the arts. Cynne’ Simpson, majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Spanish. Ms. Simpson graduated magna cum laude and has received numerous honors including two Hearst Argyle writing awards and a Poynter Institute fellowship. While matriculating in the John H. Johnson School of Communications, news anchor Ted Koppel was so impressed with her ability to report in English and Spanish, he selected her for a fellowship with ABC News Nightline. Ebony Magazine is one of the oldest and most successful African American magazines. Founded in 1945 by John H. Johnson, Ebony provides business, health, fashion, sports, entertainment and general news for the African American community. In 2003, Howard University’s School of Communications was renamed in honor of John H. Johnson. Mr. Johnson’s legacy in the communications field as a dynamic publisher and champion of minority press lives on in the vision of the John H. Johnson School of Communications. |
