CHAIR'S MESSAGE
Greetings and welcome to the web pages of the Department of Radio, Television and Film!
This department prepares students for exciting careers in the electronic and cinematic industries. At the undergraduate level, students can earn a B.A. through concentrations in audio production, television production, film production and telecommunications management. Graduate students can earn a Masters of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Film. All of our students are grounded in instruction designed to produce creative, humanistic and culturally sensitive communicators.
A culturally diverse, international faculty of productive scholars and experienced professionals provides the training necessary to help students become media researchers, critics, engineers, editors, screenwriters, producers, directors, managers and entrepreneurs. Also, students interact with world-renowned industry professionals, who lecture, serve as mentors or conduct intensive, hands-on workshops.
Department of Radio, Television and Film students are actively involved in campus media outlets; including the professionally-run commercial station WHUR-FM, the PBS-affiliate station WHUT-TV, the student-run WHBC-AM, and the department's internet-only talk radio station, glasshouseradio.com. In addition, RTVF majors serve as interns for broadcast, cablecast, satellite, internet and multi-media companies or government regulatory agencies based in the media-rich Washington DC metropolitan area.
Our students and faculty members have won Emmys, Peabodys, ABC Talent Development and Princess Grace Awards -- just to name a few. And faculty and students have made significant contributions to national academic and professional organizations as varied as the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC), National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB). From New York to Los Angeles, and from Africa to Europe and beyond, our alums are industry movers and shakers.
But don't take my word for it. Please visit our various web pages for specific details, and we look forward to hearing from you!
